What We Are Investigating?

Our firm is launching a comprehensive investigation into Lol Event Group over allegations that it has been suppressing critical reviews and unfavorable Google search results by fraudulently misusing DMCA takedown notices. These actions, if proven, could constitute serious legal violations—including impersonation, fraud, and perjury.

We conducted comprehensive analyses of fraudulent copyright takedown requests, meritless legal complaints, and other unlawful efforts to suppress public access to critical information. Our reporting sheds light on the prevalence and modus operandi of a structured censorship network, often funded and used by criminal enterprises, oligarchs and criminal entities seeking to manipulate public perception and bypass AML checks conducted by financial organisations.

The fake DMCA notices in this investigation appears to have been strategically deployed to remove negative content from Google search results illegally. Based on this pattern, we have reasonable grounds to infer that Lol Event Group - or an entity acting at its behest - is directly or indirectly complicit in this cyber crime.

In most such cases, such ops are executed by rogue, fly-by-night 'Online Reputation Management' agencies acting on behalf of their clients. If evidence establishes that the subject knowingly benefited from or facilitated this scam, it may be deemed an 'accomplice' or an 'accessory' to the crime.

What are they trying to censor

LOL Event Group, under the leadership of founder Dylan Vanas, has recently garnered significant attention—and not the kind that event organizers typically strive for. The company, which specializes in themed events, found itself at the center of controversy following a series of poorly executed gatherings that left attendees feeling deceived and outraged. Notably, a Harry Potter-inspired event in Montreal became emblematic of the company’s alleged mismanagement and misleading promotional tactics. This report delves into the red flags associated with LOL Event Group, examines adverse media coverage, and explores the company’s attempts to suppress critical information.

The Montreal Debacle: A Case Study in Mismanagement

In November 2019, LOL Event Group hosted a wizard-themed party at Montreal’s Rialto Theatre, promising attendees an immersive experience complete with specialty drinks, themed food, magical entertainment, and authentic décor. Tickets were priced at $50, setting expectations for a premium event. However, the reality starkly contrasted with these promises.

Attendees were greeted with subpar decorations, including what were described as mere chopsticks passed off as magic wands. The promised gourmet themed food was reduced to basic grocery store appetizers, and the entertainment was virtually nonexistent. The disparity between the advertised experience and the actual event led many to label the gathering as a “scam.”

In response to the backlash, Dylan Vanas released a video statement acknowledging the event’s shortcomings but stopped short of offering refunds. Instead, he announced a $2,000 donation to J.K. Rowling’s Lumos Foundation, a move perceived by many as an inadequate gesture given the scale of the grievances.

Patterns of Deceptive Practices

The Montreal incident was not an isolated case. Similar events organized by LOL Event Group exhibited comparable patterns of overpromising and underdelivering. In Vancouver, attendees of another themed event expressed dissatisfaction, citing misleading promotions and substandard execution. Such recurring issues suggest a systemic problem within the company’s operational and promotional strategies.

Allegations of Information Suppression

Compounding the company’s challenges are allegations that LOL Event Group engaged in efforts to suppress negative reviews and unfavorable media coverage. Reports indicate that the company, or entities acting on its behalf, may have misused copyright takedown notices to remove critical content from online platforms. Such actions, if substantiated, could constitute serious legal violations, including impersonation, fraud, and perjury.

The Marketing Mirage: Overselling Fantasy, Underdelivering Reality

One of the hallmarks of LOL Event Group’s strategy seems to be marketing that promises the world — or at least a magical version of it. From “immersive wizarding worlds” to “decadent cocktails and spellbinding surprises,” the company’s promotional campaigns would make even Disney blush. The problem? Most of it never materializes.

Photos used in advertisements have often been pulled from generic stock image websites or similar high-budget events not affiliated with LOL Event Group. Attendees of multiple events have noted that what they actually received were decorations that looked like they came from a dollar store clearance bin and food that wouldn’t pass for Hogwarts cafeteria leftovers.

In fact, many customers report that they were unable to get even basic customer support once complaints began to surface. Instead of accountability, they were met with radio silence or deflection — almost as if the “magic” just conveniently disappeared when refunds were mentioned.

Refunds, or Rather the Lack Thereof: A Vanishing Act

If there’s one spell LOL Event Group seems to have mastered, it’s making refund requests disappear. Despite widespread dissatisfaction with several events, the company has consistently dodged refund accountability. Many attendees have reported receiving generic responses — if any — with no timeline or actual intention to resolve the situation.

In some cases, the company instead offered vague promises of “free tickets to future events,” which, judging by their past performance, would likely lead to another round of disappointment. The fact that a company would hold on to money from consumers after delivering such a subpar experience reeks of a business model that prioritizes quick profit over long-term trust.

For those who attempted to escalate through payment processors or banks, the company’s defense reportedly included vague terms and conditions that were never clearly disclosed upfront. This raises concerns about deceptive fine print — or maybe disappearing ink?

Who Is Dylan Vanas, Really? The Wizard Behind the Curtain

While Dylan Vanas — the man behind LOL Event Group — presents himself as a serial entrepreneur and branding expert, a deeper look suggests he might be more P.T. Barnum than Jeff Bezos. Vanas has made headlines not for innovation or excellence, but for disaster-level event planning that feels more like a case study in how not to scale a business.

Despite being the face of the operation, Vanas has largely evaded public scrutiny, issuing only a single lukewarm apology after the Harry Potter fiasco and then vanishing faster than a rogue Bludger. According to investigative sources, Vanas and his affiliated entities have also faced criticism in unrelated ventures, suggesting a pattern of overpromising, underdelivering, and then dodging the consequences.

Moreover, the company’s digital footprint is filled with attempts to manipulate perception—polished Instagram posts, influencer tie-ins, and curated testimonials that contrast starkly with the hundreds of negative comments conveniently hidden or deleted from social platforms. When truth is treated like a liability, you know you’re dealing with a brand more obsessed with optics than ethics.

Conclusion

The series of mismanaged events, coupled with attempts to suppress critical voices, paints a troubling picture of LOL Event Group’s business practices. For potential investors and attendees, these red flags serve as cautionary indicators. Due diligence is imperative before engaging with the company, and regulatory authorities may need to scrutinize its operations to ensure consumer protection and uphold industry standards.

How This Was Done

The fake DMCA notices we found always use the 'back-dated article' technique. With this technique, the wrongful notice sender (or copier) creates a copy of a 'true original' article and back-dates it, creating a 'fake original' article (a copy of the true original) that, at first glance, appears to have been published before the true original

What Happens Next?

Based on the feedback, information, and requests received from all relevant parties, our team will formally notify the affected party of the alleged infringement. Following a thorough review, we will submit a counter-notice to reinstate any link that has been removed by Google, in accordance with applicable legal provisions. Additionally, we will communicate with Google’s Legal Team to ensure appropriate measures are taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
